Description

  • Lead, hire, develop, and retain a global team of Field CTOs serving GitLab’s most strategic customers and opportunities.
  • Define the team’s operating model, including engagement scoping, account and region assignment, and knowledge sharing processes.
  • Coach senior individual contributors through one-on-ones, peer review, performance feedback, and development planning.
  • Serve as the senior technical voice on strategic accounts and support complex pre-sales and executive customer engagements.
  • Deliver thought leadership on DevSecOps, AI for software development, security, compliance, and platform modernization through briefings, events, presentations, and written content.
  • Partner with sales leadership, sales engineering, customer success, product, and marketing to align the Field CTO function with go-to-market priorities.
  • Represent GitLab externally with analysts, media, and industry audiences, and internally in executive forums.
  • Translate field insights into actionable input for product direction, sales strategy, marketing narratives, enablement materials, and reusable technical content.

Requirements

  • Experience leading a senior, customer-facing technical team such as Field CTO, Principal Solutions Architect, Principal Sales Engineer, or Distinguished Engineer.
  • Strong people leadership skills, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and deployment planning for senior technical leaders.
  • Significant experience as a technology leader in DevSecOps, application security, information security, or related areas.
  • Experience in executive technical roles such as Field CTO, CTO, VP of Engineering, or a comparable position is preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of AI for software development and how it relates to developer productivity, security, compliance, and enterprise platform strategy.
  • Deep knowledge of software development practices, CI/CD, cloud and platform architecture, and secure software delivery in enterprise environments.
  • Strong executive communication skills, with the ability to build credibility with senior technology and security leaders and tailor messaging to different audiences.
  • Experience representing a company externally through events, analyst conversations, media opportunities, and technical thought leadership content.
  • Experience working autonomously in a fully remote, asynchronous environment across time zones.
  • Experience partnering effectively with stakeholders at the VP level and above.

  • Base salary range of $244,200 to $409,500 USD for U.S. residents.
