Description

  • Design, implement, and evolve moderate to complex backend features with minimal guidance.
  • Make pragmatic architectural trade-offs across modular monoliths, shared components, and independently operated services.
  • Raise standards for product quality, security, availability, performance, maintainability, testing, APIs, and operational readiness.
  • Mentor associate and intermediate engineers and remove technical blockers.
  • Improve team delivery practices through code reviews and design reviews.
  • Diagnose, prevent, and respond to performance and reliability issues at scale.
  • Serve as a technical owner during incident response when appropriate.
  • Work across product, frontend, infrastructure, data, and security boundaries.
  • Collaborate with PMs and designers to shape requirements and deliver user value.
  • Use AI in production engineering workflows and help others use it responsibly.

Requirements

  • Strong backend experience with architecture, APIs, data systems, and performance tuning in a complex product or service environment.
  • Proficiency in modern backend languages and a deep understanding of systems programming.
  • Ability to learn and adapt across languages rather than relying on mastery of a single language.
  • Experience designing or evolving modular backend boundaries, bounded contexts, and migration-safe architectures.
  • Ability to lead through influence, technical judgment, and clear written communication.
  • Proven experience building or operating agentic systems in production beyond prompt engineering.
  • Experience with high-throughput distributed systems, concurrency, or profiling (helpful).
  • Hands-on experience with containerized production operations such as Kubernetes (helpful).
  • Deep database performance knowledge such as PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, schema evolution, or partitioning (helpful).
  • Background in large-scale modular monoliths or event-driven systems, or public technical communication/open-source maintenance in developer-focused SaaS (helpful).
