Description

  • Survey GitLab’s software development lifecycle and code-generation workflows to identify structural friction and high-leverage intervention points.
  • Evaluate build, buy, and adapt options for solutions, including emerging agentic and AI tooling, while considering cost, risk, and durability.
  • Design and test prototypes and review architecture to validate whether proposed fixes improve target metrics before broader investment.
  • Hire and manage a small, high-caliber team or operate as a hands-on working manager.
  • Drive validated fixes into internal adoption by partnering with affected teams to ensure solutions are used and maintained.
  • Build the technical and business case for productizing durable internal fixes in partnership with product teams.
  • Document reusable learnings so successful fixes are captured and not left as tribal knowledge.
  • Report impact through key metric changes, productization progress, and lessons learned from initiatives that did not work.

Requirements

  • Ability to use GitLab.
  • Track record of identifying and shipping technical fixes for developer productivity, CI/CD, or platform friction, including issues discovered proactively.
  • Comfort operating in high ambiguity with no existing backlog and building the roadmap from scratch.
  • People management experience, including small-team or working-manager experience.
  • Technical depth to evaluate and prototype solutions directly, not only delegate them.
  • Product judgment to assess whether an internal tool could succeed as a customer-facing product.
  • Familiarity with agentic or AI-assisted development tooling.
  • Experience moving an internal tool toward an external, customer-facing product is advantageous.
