Description

  • Monitor AWS RDS database health, identify performance issues, and support root-cause investigations.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to support 24/7 production database availability and incident response.
  • Perform quarterly patching, monthly index reviews, and backup integrity testing in production.
  • Support developers and TechOps teams with query optimization, execution, and code reviews.
  • Build or maintain automation tools using Python, PowerShell, AWS Lambda, GitHub Actions, and similar scripting tools.
  • Manage user permissions, SOPs, and disaster recovery runbooks for database systems.
  • Help ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks such as HIPAA, HITRUST, and SOC2.
  • Assist with monitoring, documentation, troubleshooting, and cross-functional support requests alongside senior DBA team members.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in a DBA or database support role in a live production environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2019 or newer.
  • Hands-on experience or a solid understanding of AWS core services, including RDS, Lambda, State Machines, and CloudWatch.
  • Proficiency in T-SQL, with exposure to Python and PowerShell for automation tasks.
  • Strong understanding of ACID properties, indexing, backup/restore strategies, and database security.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to support a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Experience with automated cloud monitoring tools such as Datadog or CloudWatch DMVs (preferred).
  • Exposure to infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform for RDS or cloud-native database architectures (preferred).
  • Experience working in compliance-driven or regulated environments such as HIPAA, HITRUST, or SOC2 (preferred).
  • Curious, methodical problem-solving approach and interest in staying current with SQL Server features (preferred).
