Description

  • Own and improve the reliability, scalability, and day-to-day operability of the production platform.
  • Design and evolve deployment workflows that make shipping safer, faster, and more predictable.
  • Improve Kubernetes workloads by handling configuration, secrets, resource usage, resilience, and environment consistency.
  • Raise observability through better monitoring, alerting, instrumentation, and failure analysis.
  • Partner with application engineers to improve developer experience, reduce toil, and remove infrastructure bottlenecks.
  • Identify operational risks and drive practical infrastructure improvements with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Support production systems across the full lifecycle from investigation through design, implementation, and safe rollout.
  • Work with delivery tooling and cloud-hosted services across Kubernetes, Google Cloud, Cloud SQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, Docker, and Jenkins.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience operating production Kubernetes environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with a major cloud provider, ideally Google Cloud Platform, including networking, IAM, managed services, and build-versus-buy trade-offs.
  • Experience building or significantly improving CI/CD and release pipelines.
  • Comfort debugging containerized workloads and working at the process, network, and filesystem level on Linux.
  • Experience improving logging, metrics, alerting, observability, and incident response.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills with Bash, Python, or similar tools.
  • Thoughtful approach to security, credentials, service boundaries, and production change risk.
  • Ability to work effectively with software engineers and technical leaders, including pushing back constructively when needed.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot, with healthy skepticism of their output.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and clear communication of trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience supporting PHP/Symfony application estates or similar service-oriented web platforms, preferred.
  • Experience with Cloud SQL/MySQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, or similar managed data and messaging components, preferred.
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or similar, preferred.
  • Experience with cost optimization, capacity planning, or performance tuning in production cloud environments, preferred.
  • Experience improving internal developer platforms, golden paths, or self-service tooling, preferred.
  • Experience working across mixed legacy and modern service estates, preferred.
