Description

  • Own employee and contractor onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for staff support on benefits, payroll, policies, and related concerns.
  • Maintain the internal handbook with staff guidance, policies, and processes.
  • Manage relationships with PEOs, EORs, and other HR service providers.
  • Track employee and contractor contracts and update them as needed.
  • Manage employment visa sponsorship processes.
  • Coordinate performance reviews.
  • Track compliance requirements across the jurisdictions where staff are employed.
  • At the Manager level, own HR and staff support functions end to end, including designing processes and policies.
  • At the Manager level, drive strategic decisions on HR providers, benefits design, compliance approach, and staff experience initiatives.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in people operations or HR.
  • For Manager level, 5+ years of experience in operations, including people management experience.
  • Strong operations mindset with the ability to prioritize fast-moving tasks and implement solutions efficiently.
  • Systems-oriented approach with interest in improving processes and reducing inefficiencies.
  • Strong ownership, initiative, and comfort raising issues and solutions proactively.
  • Great communication skills and comfort with open, direct feedback.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Comfort with remote work.
  • Professional-level English proficiency; application materials must be submitted in English.
  • Preferred: familiarity with and interest in Epoch AI's mission.
  • Preferred: ability to overlap with UTC-8 (Pacific Time) and UTC (Greenwich Mean Time).
  • Preferred: ability to travel for three annual retreats.

Benefits

  • Annual salary of $95,000–$139,000 USD for Associate level or $115,000–$153,000 for Manager level, depending on seniority and location.
  • Salaries may be paid in local currencies rather than USD.
  • Fully remote work with flexible hours.

  • Generous PTO, including 30 protected days per year, unlimited personal and sick leave, and 4 months of paid parental leave for eligible permanent staff.

  • Paid work trips, including three staff retreats per year and relevant conferences.
  • Access to Berkeley offices for at least 20 days per year, with paid meals, snacks, gym access, and more.
