Description

  • Define modernisation roadmaps and target-state architecture for product applications, services, infrastructure, and data flows.
  • Assess legacy components to identify technical debt and practical modernisation paths.
  • Decide when to refactor, re-platform, or re-architect based on performance, cost, risk, and delivery constraints.
  • Implement modernisation changes directly in product codebases, including legacy refactoring and monolith decomposition.
  • Introduce cloud-native patterns such as microservices, event-driven architecture, containerisation, and serverless services.
  • Improve performance, scalability, and reliability using observability, cloud metrics, and logging tools.
  • Develop reference implementations, engineering patterns, and guardrails that other teams can adopt.
  • Improve SaaS operational capabilities through automation, repeatable tenant provisioning, configuration, and environment management.
  • Enhance deployment consistency, safer release processes, and tenant-aware observability across services.
  • Lead technical workshops, architecture reviews, and cross-functional collaboration with product, platform, DevOps, security, and compliance teams.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in cloud architecture, platform engineering, or senior software engineering roles responsible for production systems.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering application modernisation programs within AWS environments.
  • Experience modernising applications through refactoring, re-platforming, or re-architecting legacy systems.
  • Strong experience building and operating production systems using containers and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or equivalent.
  • Solid backend engineering experience with the ability to diagnose and improve performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Experience working with Java-based systems or comparable backend development stacks.
  • Proven experience implementing microservices, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.
  • Experience improving operational maturity through automation, observability, monitoring, and repeatable deployment processes.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence engineering, product, and platform teams.
  • AWS certification is advantageous but not required.
