Description

  • Conduct full application reviews using Empowerly’s admissions evaluation rubric.
  • Provide clear academic ratings based on grades, course rigor, curriculum progression, and major alignment.
  • Evaluate extracurricular involvement, leadership, impact, distinction, and recognition in major competitions.
  • Review essays for narrative strength, authenticity, clarity, intellectual vitality, and institutional fit.
  • Identify academic inconsistencies such as grade trends or core-subject weaknesses and provide tactful feedback.
  • Apply the rating scale consistently and explain distinctions, including high-level academic validation.
  • Deliver actionable recommendations to improve academics, activities, and application storytelling.
  • Tailor application feedback to specific university contexts when appropriate.
  • End each review with constructive encouragement and clear next steps.
  • Release any assigned review that presents a conflict of interest and maintain review integrity.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in undergraduate admissions evaluation, with former admissions officer experience strongly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of selective college admissions standards and committee evaluation processes.
  • Ability to evaluate academic rigor across varied high school curricula, including AP, IB, and honors courses.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to provide precise, actionable, and tactful feedback.
  • Ability to apply standardized rubrics consistently and explain rating distinctions clearly.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet review deadlines.
  • Proactive communication well before key deadlines.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics.
  • Preferred experience as a former admissions officer at a top 50 national university.
  • Preferred familiarity with applicants to highly selective institutions, including Ivy League and competitive STEM programs.
  • Preferred familiarity with major national and international academic competitions.
  • Preferred experience participating in admissions committee discussions and rating calibration.
