Description

  • Lead the architectural evolution of core storage engine components.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
  • Drive cross-organizational initiatives to build observability solutions.
  • Collaborate with a globally distributed engineering team on Elasticsearch logs and metrics capabilities.
  • Improve coding standards and simplify complex system behaviors across the platform.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and technical mentor within the engineering organization.
  • Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests with global community contributors.
  • Write and maintain modern Java code for Elasticsearch's core systems.

Requirements

  • Experience building high-performance, scalable database, search, or distributed systems.
  • Strong focus on storage, indexing, query execution, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and move between projects, codebases, or teams as business priorities change.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a distributed team using asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication.
  • Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code.
  • Prompt-engineering mindset and sound engineering judgment to validate AI outputs and recognize limitations.
  • Experience implementing techniques to efficiently index, store, and query time-series or logs data.
  • Experience with Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
  • Strong core Java skills and deep understanding of Java concurrency primitives.
  • Ability to design and optimize efficient data structures and algorithms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Preferred: Experience with Elasticsearch.
  • Preferred: Experience with open source projects, source control workflows, and continuous integration.
  • Preferred: Experience with data storage technology.
  • Preferred: Experience designing, leading, and owning cross-functional initiatives.
  • Preferred: Past experience with database, search engine, OS, or cloud service development.

Benefits

  • Base salary of $133,100-$210,600 USD, or $159,900-$252,900 USD in select locations.
  • Eligible for Elastic's stock program.
