Description

  • Lead the architectural evolution of core storage engine components and resolve performance bottlenecks.
  • Design, implement, and optimize Elasticsearch’s core storage and query engine.
  • Drive improvements to indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
  • Lead cross-organizational initiatives to build observability solutions.
  • Work with a globally distributed engineering team on Elasticsearch logs and metrics capabilities.
  • Improve system quality by applying clean coding standards and reducing architectural complexity.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor for Elasticsearch across the engineering organization.
  • Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests with the global community.
  • Write idiomatic modern Java code for Elasticsearch.

Requirements

  • Experience building high-performance, scalable database, search, or distributed systems.
  • Strong focus on storage, indexing, query execution, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and move between projects or codebases as priorities change.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a distributed team using asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication.
  • Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while owning final outcomes.
  • Prompt-engineering mindset with sound engineering judgment to validate AI results and recognize limitations.
  • Experience implementing techniques to efficiently index, store, and query time-series or logs data.
  • Experience with one or more data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
  • Strong core Java skills and deep understanding of Java concurrency primitives.
  • Ability to design and optimize efficient data structures and algorithms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Preferred: experience with Elasticsearch.
  • Preferred: experience with open source projects, source control workflows, and continuous integration.
  • Preferred: experience designing, leading, and owning cross-functional initiatives.
  • Preferred: experience with database, search engine, OS, or cloud service development.

  • Base salary with no variable compensation component.
  • Typical starting salary range: 272,000 Lei to 430,200 Lei RON.
