Description

  • Lead the architectural evolution of core storage engine components.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource usage.
  • Lead cross-organizational initiatives to build observability solutions.
  • Work with a globally distributed engineering team on Elasticsearch logs and metrics capabilities.
  • Drive operational and system improvements through coding standards and architectural clarity.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and technical mentor across Elasticsearch engineering.
  • Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests with the global community.
  • Write and maintain modern Java code for Elasticsearch's storage and query systems.

Requirements

  • Experience building high-performance, scalable database, search, or distributed systems.
  • Strong focus on storage, indexing, query execution, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and switch between projects based on business priorities.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a distributed team using asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication.
  • Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code.
  • Prompt-engineering mindset with sound engineering judgment to validate AI outputs and understand limitations.
  • Experience implementing novel techniques to index, store, and query time-series or logs data.
  • Experience with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
  • Strong core Java skills, deep understanding of Java concurrency primitives, and ability to design efficient data structures and algorithms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience working effectively across distributed teams.
  • Bonus: experience with Elasticsearch.
  • Bonus: experience with open source projects, source control workflows, and continuous integration.
  • Bonus: experience designing, leading, and owning cross-functional initiatives.
  • Bonus: past experience with database, search engine, OS, or cloud service development.

  • Base salary compensation with no variable compensation component.
  • Typical starting salary range of €55,800 to €88,300 EUR.
