Description

  • Lead the architectural evolution of core storage engine components.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
  • Lead cross-organizational initiatives to build observability solutions.
  • Work with a globally distributed team on Elasticsearch logs and metrics capabilities.
  • Drive operational and system improvements through clean coding standards and architectural clarity.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and technical mentor across Elasticsearch engineering.
  • Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests with the global community.
  • Write modern Java for Elasticsearch core systems.

Requirements

  • Experience building high-performance, scalable database, search, or distributed systems.
  • Strong focus on storage, indexing, query execution, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and switch between projects, codebases, or teams as needed.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a distributed team using asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication.
  • Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code.
  • Prompt-engineering mindset with sound engineering judgment to validate AI outputs and limitations.
  • Experience implementing techniques to efficiently index, store, and query time-series or logs data.
  • Experience with Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
  • Strong core Java skills, including deep understanding of concurrency primitives, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience working respectfully in distributed teams.
  • Bonus: Experience building with Elasticsearch.
  • Bonus: Experience with open source projects, source control workflows, and continuous integration.
  • Bonus: Experience designing, leading, and owning cross-functional initiatives.
  • Bonus: Past experience with database, search engine, OS, or cloud service development.

  • Typical starting salary range: 791,300–1,251,700 NOK.
