Description

  • Lead the architectural evolution of core storage engine components.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
  • Lead cross-organizational initiatives to build observability solutions.
  • Work with a globally distributed team on Elasticsearch logs and metrics capabilities.
  • Drive operational and system improvements through clean coding standards and architectural clarity.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor across the wider engineering organization.
  • Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests with a global community.
  • Write idiomatic modern Java code for Elasticsearch.

Requirements

  • Experience building high-performance, scalable database, search, or distributed systems.
  • Strong focus on storage, indexing, query execution, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and move between projects as business priorities change.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a distributed team using asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication.
  • Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code.
  • Prompt-engineering mindset with sound engineering judgment to validate AI results and limitations.
  • Experience implementing techniques to efficiently index, store, and query time-series or logs data.
  • Experience with Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
  • Strong core Java skills and deep understanding of concurrency primitives.
  • Ability to design and optimize efficient data structures and algorithms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Preferred: Experience building with Elasticsearch, open source contribution, source control workflows, continuous integration, database/search engine/OS/cloud service development, or leading cross-functional initiatives.

  • Typical starting salary range of €85,600 to €135,500 EUR.
