Description

  • Lead the architectural evolution of core storage engine components and resolve performance bottlenecks.
  • Design, implement, and optimize Elasticsearch core storage and query engine behavior.
  • Lead cross-organizational initiatives to build observability solutions.
  • Improve storage efficiency, query processing, and data layouts for object storage.
  • Work with a globally distributed engineering team on logs and metrics capabilities.
  • Introduce best practices that improve coding standards, system clarity, and operational performance.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor for Elasticsearch technical areas.
  • Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests with the global community.
  • Write modern Java code for Elasticsearch’s core systems.

Requirements

  • Experience building high-performance, scalable database, search, or distributed systems.
  • Strong focus on storage, indexing, query execution, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and move between projects as business priorities change.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a distributed team using asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication.
  • Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code.
  • Prompt-engineering mindset with sound judgment to validate AI output and recognize limitations.
  • Experience implementing techniques to index, store, and query time-series or logs data.
  • Experience with Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
  • Strong core Java skills and deep understanding of Java concurrency primitives.
  • Ability to design and optimize efficient data structures and algorithms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Preferred: experience with Elasticsearch, open source projects, source control workflows, continuous integration, data storage technology, or database/search engine/OS/cloud service development.

  • Base salary of $128,300–$203,000 CAD.
