Description

  • Define, lead, and contribute to the evolution of Elasticsearch’s core search and indexing capabilities.
  • Provide technical vision and direction for search infrastructure, including indexing, retrieval, and relevance.
  • Research advances in search infrastructure, data structures, and retrieval algorithms to improve system foundations.
  • Collaborate with partners and product teams to understand needs and shape the long-term technical roadmap.
  • Drive improvements to Elasticsearch’s indexing, query execution, and relevance layers.
  • Serve as a go-to expert for key Elasticsearch domains and continuously improve them through technical insight.
  • Mentor expert engineers and provide technical and professional guidance.
  • Lead technical projects across teams and organizations from concept to completion.
  • Work closely with distributed teams using email, GitHub, Zoom, and Slack.

Requirements

  • Experience leading technical projects in search infrastructure and distributed systems.
  • Proven experience building and operating sophisticated search platforms and high-performance software systems.
  • Experience mentoring expert engineers and providing technical and professional guidance.
  • Experience defining long-term technical vision for a core search or retrieval system across teams.
  • Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch, Lucene, or Solr.
  • Strong core Java skills, including familiarity with advanced data structures, concurrency constructs, and lambdas.
  • Experience with large-scale data or search systems, including Elasticsearch, Lucene, Solr, or distributed storage engines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a high level of autonomy and guide projects from concept to completion.
  • Bonus: prior experience building with Elasticsearch and working in search and information retrieval.
  • Bonus: experience with open source projects, source control workflows, and continuous integration.

  • Typical starting salary range of €80,400 to €127,200 EUR.
