Description

  • Define, lead, and contribute to the evolution of core search and indexing capabilities for Elasticsearch.
  • Research advances in search infrastructure, data structures, and retrieval algorithms to improve system efficiency and capability.
  • Provide technical vision and direction for Elasticsearch’s core search infrastructure, including indexing, retrieval, and relevance.
  • Collaborate with product teams and partners to understand needs and shape the long-term search roadmap.
  • Drive improvements to indexing, query execution, and relevance layers based on experience with large-scale search systems.
  • Act as a go-to expert in key Elasticsearch domains and continuously improve them through technical insight.
  • Lead technical projects across search infrastructure and distributed systems from concept through completion.
  • Mentor experienced engineers with both technical and professional guidance.
  • Work across teams and organizations to collaboratively define technical direction and roadmap.

Requirements

  • Experience leading technical projects in search infrastructure and distributed systems.
  • Proven experience building and operating sophisticated search platforms and high-performance software systems.
  • Experience mentoring expert engineers.
  • Experience defining a long-term technical vision for a core search or retrieval system.
  • Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch, Lucene, or Solr.
  • Strong skills in core Java.
  • Familiarity with advanced data structures, concurrency constructs, and newer Java features such as lambdas.
  • Experience with large-scale data or search systems, including Elasticsearch, Lucene, Solr, or distributed storage engines.
  • Ability to work with a high level of autonomy and guide projects from concept to completion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; open-source project experience, source control workflow familiarity, and continuous integration experience are a plus.

  • Typical starting salary range of €102,700 to €162,500 EUR.
