Description

  • Define and drive the technical vision for Elasticsearch’s core search infrastructure.
  • Lead the evolution of core search and indexing capabilities as a full-time Elasticsearch contributor.
  • Research advances in search infrastructure, data structures, and retrieval algorithms.
  • Work with partners and product teams to understand needs and shape the long-term roadmap.
  • Drive improvements to Elasticsearch’s indexing, query execution, and relevance layers.
  • Serve as a go-to technical authority for multiple Elasticsearch domains.
  • Mentor expert engineers with technical and professional guidance.
  • Collaborate across globally distributed teams using email, GitHub, Zoom, and Slack.
  • Guide projects from concept to completion, including technical design and implementation.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading technical projects in search infrastructure and distributed systems.
  • Experience building and operating sophisticated search platforms and high-performance software systems.
  • Experience mentoring expert engineers.
  • Experience defining long-term technical vision for a core search or retrieval system.
  • Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch, Lucene, or Solr.
  • Strong skills in core Java, including advanced data structures, concurrency constructs, and newer language features such as lambdas.
  • Experience with large-scale data or search systems, including Elasticsearch, Lucene, Solr, or distributed storage engines.
  • Ability to work with a high level of autonomy and collaborate across teams to deliver technical projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bonus: Experience with Elasticsearch in search and information retrieval.
  • Bonus: Experience contributing to open source projects and working with different source control workflows and continuous integration.

  • Typical starting salary range of €73,300 to €115,900 EUR.
