Description

  • Translate complex business needs into enterprise retrieval architectures built on Elasticsearch.
  • Lead technical strategy and design for customer engagements, including node planning, capacity planning, shard strategy, ILM, and cross-cluster replication.
  • Design and operationalize semantic search architectures using vector search, hybrid retrieval, and RAG pipelines.
  • Profile, benchmark, and tune distributed search and indexing performance for high-QPS environments with sub-second SLAs.
  • Architect distributed ingestion strategies for petabyte-scale throughput and efficient bulk indexing.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Core Engineering to influence the Elasticsearch roadmap and surface edge-case issues.
  • Publish best practices, reference architectures, and reusable solution patterns for internal and open-source use.
  • Drive internal enablement, mentor senior engineers, and support the technical growth of Elastic teams and customers.
  • Work with global Professional Services and Sales leadership on strategic enterprise engagements.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to CTOs and enterprise architecture teams.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience as a Principal Architect, Lead Engineer, or Senior Systems Consultant focused on Elasticsearch at massive scale.
  • Deep understanding of Elasticsearch internals, including distributed systems theory, consensus protocols, node roles, Lucene indexing mechanics, and cluster state management.
  • Experience deploying production semantic search solutions using Elasticsearch ML nodes, dense/sparse vector fields, and modern NLP or LLM orchestration tools.
  • Advanced cloud infrastructure experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP using Docker and Terraform.
  • Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Java, Python, or Go.
  • Experience using official Elasticsearch client libraries and building custom plugins.
  • Exceptional executive communication, presentation, and storytelling skills.
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Comfort working across globally distributed teams and traveling to client sites as needed.

  • Base salary of $159,800 to $252,800 USD, with a higher range of $191,900 to $303,500 USD in select locations.
