Description

  • Monitor the availability, performance, capacity and health of customer SQL Server environments.
  • Review alerts and triage database tickets based on impact, urgency and technical complexity.
  • Investigate incidents and performance issues, identify root causes and develop resolution plans.
  • Resolve incidents through to completion while maintaining ownership and meeting service levels.
  • Install, configure, maintain, patch and upgrade SQL Server environments.
  • Investigate and improve database performance, including slow queries, blocking and deadlocks.
  • Manage database users, roles, permissions and access controls.
  • Configure and support high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including mirroring, replication and recovery processes.
  • Communicate findings, risks, updates and recommendations directly to customers and internal teams.
  • Maintain incident records, documentation, operating procedures and knowledge base articles.

Requirements

  • Senior-level experience administering and supporting production Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Experience working across multiple SQL Server versions.
  • Proven ability to monitor, assess, triage and resolve database incidents.
  • Experience communicating directly with customers and business stakeholders during technical investigations.
  • Strong Microsoft SQL Server administration, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting expertise.
  • Experience with high availability and disaster recovery configuration and support.
  • Experience with database mirroring, replication and data synchronisation.
  • Experience with database monitoring, root-cause investigation and performance optimisation.
  • Strong technical documentation skills and understanding of incident, problem and change-management processes.
  • Preferred experience in an MSP or multi-customer support environment, cloud-hosted or managed SQL database services, database migration or modernisation projects, automation or scripting for database administration, ITIL-aligned service management, SQL Server or database certifications, and mentoring junior staff.
