Description

  • Make build-versus-buy decisions for AI models and systems based on product needs, market gaps, competitive advantage, and ROI.
  • Allocate team effort across long-term research bets, feature delivery, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Guide AI research direction using product insight, and use research understanding to inform product strategy.
  • Own the evals strategy by designing productionized evaluation frameworks tied to real user needs.
  • Establish quality standards for first-party and third-party models before they ship to users.
  • Build feedback loops and data pipelines to learn from user behavior and improve model performance.
  • Partner with product teams to recommend the best models and architectures for specific features over time.
  • Enable rapid experimentation by improving AI infrastructure, tooling, and processes for product teams.
  • Coordinate research timelines, dependencies, and product roadmaps to support feature launches.
  • Make strategic decisions to optimize model cost, latency, and quality across infrastructure choices.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of product management experience, including 1-2 years working on AI/ML products.
  • Track record of making sound build-versus-buy decisions in the AI space.
  • Experience balancing research exploration with shipping product value.
  • Ability to translate technical capabilities into user-facing product features.
  • Understanding of modern ML/AI systems and LLMs, with awareness of the tradeoffs.
  • Experience shipping AI/ML products to production at scale.
  • Experience with evals frameworks, model training pipelines, and inference infrastructure.
  • Understanding of ML cost structures, including training compute, inference costs, and token economics.
  • Experience working with research teams and helping them focus on high-impact work.
  • Track record of partnering with engineering teams on infrastructure and platform work.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and setting direction when the path is not clear.
  • Comfortable with SQL, experimentation platforms, and analytics tools.
  • Experience designing experiments and A/B tests to validate hypotheses.
  • Ability to write clear decision documents with explicit tradeoffs, pros/cons, and alignment dates.
  • Preferred: deep curiosity about AI, current models, techniques, and research papers.
  • Preferred: experience motivating researchers while keeping them aligned to product goals.
  • Preferred: interest in infrastructure, MLOps, evals frameworks, and inference latency.
