Description

  • Design, build, and operate backend infrastructure for the Databricks platform at scale.
  • Work on domains such as core compute fabric/resource management, service platforms, and machine learning infrastructure.
  • Support Databricks’ growth by building foundational platforms that enable seamless operation across multiple geographic regions and cloud providers.
  • Implement cloud-agnostic infrastructure abstractions to simplify service management and operations for engineering teams.
  • Develop tools and processes to drive engineering efficiency, including improvements to developer experience (linters, static analysis, IDEs, remote dev environments).
  • Design and improve automated release pipelines and test automation frameworks to increase delivery velocity and reliability.
  • Optimize the Rust development experience across the organization and contribute to language/tooling/CI improvements.
  • Contribute across all project phases from initial design and development to implementation and ongoing operations, and produce clear technical documentation to drive alignment and decision-making.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of professional software development experience, or a PhD degree as an alternative.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Java, Scala, or Go.
  • Hands-on experience developing and operating backend systems in production.
  • Ability to contribute across design, implementation, and operations with guidance from senior team members.
  • Self-driven, collaborative mindset with a focus on delivering impact through teamwork.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to produce clear technical documentation.
  • Preferred: experience with cloud providers, multi-region deployments, cloud-agnostic abstractions, developer tooling, or machine learning infrastructure; familiarity with Rust is a plus.
