Description

  • Serve as the primary analytics leader across eCommerce, Marketing, Finance, Retail, Merchandising, Inventory Planning, and Operations.
  • Own analytics problem definition by identifying the business questions that matter and the decisions insights should inform.
  • Move analysis beyond reporting to explain why and how outcomes happen and what actions the business should take next.
  • Proactively identify risks, opportunities, inefficiencies, and performance drivers from company data.
  • Influence senior leaders with clear implications, recommendations, and decision-focused narratives.
  • Own the integrity, governance, and usability of core commerce, customer, and operational datasets across platforms.
  • Define, document, and continuously improve company-wide KPI frameworks with Finance and functional leaders.
  • Resolve cross-functional metric misalignment to establish a single trusted view of performance.
  • Design and scale AI-assisted analytics workflows for recurring decisions such as growth, margin, inventory productivity, and forecasting.
  • Own web and digital analytics strategy in Heap, including funnel analysis, customer journey analysis, and conversion optimization.
  • Ensure tracking integrity, event schema accuracy, and data instrumentation in partnership with Product Engineering.
  • Translate behavioral data into commercial implications for merchandising, marketing, inventory, and operations.
  • Reconcile demand, margin, inventory, and operational perspectives into cohesive performance narratives.
  • Establish analytical standards and scalable reporting and automation frameworks to reduce reactive ad hoc work.
  • Hire, mentor, and develop junior analytics talent once foundational systems are in place.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in Analytics, Strategy, or Data Leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading analytics across multiple business functions.
  • Strong experience in commerce-driven businesses such as retail, eCommerce, CPG, or marketplaces.
  • Advanced SQL skills and strong analytical modeling capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and governing AI-enabled analytics workflows.
  • Ability to pressure-test AI-generated insights against data, customer behavior, and commercial logic.
  • Hands-on expertise with Heap or a similar event-based web analytics platform.
  • Comfort working with structured data formats such as JSON, event schemas, and data instrumentation.
  • Experience defining KPI frameworks and resolving cross-functional metric misalignment.
  • Proven ability to translate complex data into clear, compelling stories for executive decision-making.
  • Track record of proactive insight generation rather than reactive reporting.
  • Ability to work standard Eastern Time business hours.
  • Experience with all traffic acquisition channels and their downstream impact on site behavior, with forecasting capability, is a strong plus.
  • Preference for candidates who reside near Sur La Table hubs in Northwest Indiana, Austin, Texas, or Toronto, Ontario.
  • For US-based candidates, residence in one of the following states is required: AZ, DE, FL, GA, IN, LA, MI, MS, MO, NV, NC, OK, PA, TN, TX, UT, WV, WI, or WY.
