Description

  • Develop new backend features and improve existing PHP/Symfony services that support the Fraîche mobile app and operational tooling.
  • Maintain reliable integrations across PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, message queues, and Redis.
  • Own and improve platform reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
  • Support and optimize the current Upsun infrastructure and help prepare for a potential migration to AWS.
  • Collaborate on infrastructure migration planning and gradually implement changes as the platform evolves.
  • Partner with frontend, mobile, backend, product, and operations teams to refine requirements and deliver smooth end-to-end functionality.
  • Implement backend solutions for smart fridge hardware interactions such as secure unlock workflows, real-time inventory updates, and event processing.
  • Contribute to the Fraîche mobile app for hardware-aware and user-facing features, ideally in Flutter or React Native.
  • Write clean, maintainable code with appropriate architecture, testing, observability, and documentation.
  • Participate in code reviews, deployment processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Senior-level backend engineering experience with multiple production systems built using PHP and Symfony, or comparable frameworks.
  • Experience owning services, APIs, and production operations.
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch, including data modeling, indexing, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency with message queues, including publish/consume patterns, retries, and idempotency.
  • Proficiency with Redis for caching, rate limiting, locks, or pub/sub.
  • Comfort operating production systems, debugging incidents, and improving reliability.
  • Familiarity with PaaS environments such as Upsun or Platform.sh-style systems, and interest in AWS.
  • Ability to contribute to mobile development about 30% of the time, ideally with Flutter or React Native.
  • Intermediate or higher English proficiency, written and spoken, for an international distributed team.
  • Fluency with AI engineering tools.
  • Preferred: familiarity with IoT or hardware-integrated systems such as scanners, MQTT, RFID/NFC, or smart devices.
  • Preferred: experience planning or executing migrations and working with AWS services in production.
  • Preferred: experience with networking, security, IAM, and cloud operations.
  • Preferred: experience with logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and incident response practices.
  • Preferred: comfort with agile workflows and asynchronous collaboration tools such as Jira, Trello, Slack, and Meet.
  • Preferred: experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release processes.
  • Preferred: previous startup or product-team experience where multiple responsibilities were handled.
