Description

  • Lead the UK Residency program, from sourcing breakthrough research concepts to recruiting founding teams and launching new FROs with ARIA and other funders.
  • Manage UK office operations and support hiring as Convergent builds the operational foundations for its UK entity.
  • Maintain and deepen relationships with ARIA while developing partnerships with UKRI, Innovate UK, DSIT, and other UK research funders.
  • Represent Convergent externally across London, Cambridge, and other UK science and policy networks through events, speaking engagements, and relationship-building.
  • Serve as a voting board member on multiple UK-based FROs and provide governance, strategic oversight, and support with compliance requirements.
  • Help shape Convergent’s UK and broader Europe strategy in partnership with organizational leadership.
  • Design, run, and iterate cohort-based Residency programming that converts ideas into fundable FROs and supports participants through selection and launch.
  • Build and maintain relationships with university leaders, research directors, technology transfer offices, and policymakers to strengthen the UK ecosystem.
  • Support UK team design and, where appropriate, directly manage new hires across operations, programming, fundraising, communications, or technical support.
  • Help FROs navigate UK funding opportunities, craft proposals, and translate impact into narratives and metrics that unlock support.

Requirements

  • Deep fluency in the UK science ecosystem, including UKRI, ARIA, Innovate UK, university structures, and charity/nonprofit regulations.
  • Experience designing, running, and iterating cohort-based programs, accelerators, residencies, or similar initiatives.
  • Ability to build long-term strategic roadmaps while also handling immediate operational issues.
  • Board experience with comfort in governance, fiduciary responsibility, and making difficult calls.
  • Strong relationship-building ability with networks across UK research institutions, funding bodies, or policy circles.
  • Excellent judgment under uncertainty and comfort making decisions with incomplete information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across formats such as grant applications, board memos, public speaking, and social media.
  • Empathy for scientists combined with a willingness to challenge traditional academic norms.
  • Comfort wearing many hats in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
  • Bonus experience with ARIA, UKRI, Innovate UK, large UK government grants, top UK universities, technology transfer, spinning out companies, or prior startup experience in the UK.

Benefits

  • £150,000 - £200,000 annual salary.
  • Salary offers are benchmarked and set based on relevant experience, skills, and scope.
  • Compensation is geographically adjusted for hires outside the Greater London/Cambridge area.
  • Remote work based in the UK, with Greater London preferred.
