Description

  • Lead the utility interconnection process for Front-of-the-Meter and Behind-the-Meter projects across multiple RTOs, ISOs, utilities, and markets.
  • Evaluate transmission and distribution tariffs, costs, timelines, and system upgrade requirements to inform project planning and schedules.
  • Develop interconnection strategies based on pre-application reports, system impact studies, and grid or hosting capacity data.
  • Manage and track interconnection-related studies, applications, and follow-up actions across the project portfolio.
  • Coordinate interconnection applications and related deliverables with internal teams, external consultants, utilities, and other stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact with ISOs, RTOs, TSPs, consultants, and utilities for interconnection activities.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration between Sales, Pre-Construction, Development, and Engineering teams to improve application timing and strategy.
  • Review engineering designs, technical data, and interconnection application packages at multiple design stages.
  • Analyze interconnection study results and provide technical guidance, insights, and recommendations.
  • Identify, contract, and manage consultants supporting studies, models, design reviews, and application deliverables.
  • Support negotiations of interconnection agreement technical terms and related subcontractor MSAs and work orders.
  • Occasionally prepare single-line drawings, transient stability models, and feasibility analyses to support applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • 6+ years of experience in transmission and distribution planning or renewable energy project interconnection is required.
  • Experience with PJM, NYISO, and ISO-NE markets is required.
  • Strong understanding of AC/DC fundamentals and three-phase power systems is required.
  • Advanced working knowledge of power flow modeling and analysis is required.
  • Foundational knowledge of RTO and utility tariffs, business practices, protocols, procedures, and guidelines is required.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. power markets, with emphasis on solar and battery energy storage interconnections, is required.
  • Experience with storage and solar project development, utilities, interconnection, permitting, and contracting is required.
  • Ability to analyze complex interconnection study results and solve technical, financial, and strategic issues independently and collaboratively is required.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and working across internal and external stakeholders is required.
  • Ability to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship is required.
  • 20% travel is expected, including travel to project sites and company meetings.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as standing, walking, or lifting up to 50 lbs may be required.
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • PE license is preferred.
  • Experience working for both utilities and developers is preferred.
  • Experience with PSCAD, SKM, AutoCAD, PSS/e, TARA, or Aspen One-Liner is preferred.
  • Experience modeling battery energy storage systems for transient stability analysis in PSCAD and feasibility analysis in SKM is a plus.
  • In-depth understanding of transmission line, distribution feeder, and substation protection principles is preferred.
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma training or experience is preferred.

  • Base salary range of $135,000 to $150,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
