Description

  • Define and own Coinbase's multi-year technical strategy for Solana staking across validator performance, protocol participation, and product integration.
  • Lead engineering efforts to maximize validator performance, including optimization of vote accuracy, block production, MEV strategies, commission tuning, and stake distribution.
  • Serve as Coinbase's primary authority on Solana runtime behavior, consensus, staking economics, validator clients, and protocol upgrades.
  • Partner with Retail Staking and Institutional Staking teams to architect scalable Solana staking integrations across Coinbase products.
  • Represent Coinbase externally in the Solana ecosystem through relationship-building, conference speaking, community engagement, and protocol governance participation.
  • Write production code and build infrastructure for validator operations, monitoring, automation, and reliability.
  • Set technical standards through code reviews, architecture decisions, and incident response leadership.
  • Advise on other Solana initiatives where deep protocol knowledge is required, including tax infrastructure, token programs, and new products.
  • Mentor senior engineers and help define what strong Solana engineering looks like at Coinbase.

Requirements

  • Extensive hands-on experience with Solana architecture, including the runtime, validator mechanics, staking economics, consensus, turbine, Gulf Stream, and validator client ecosystem.
  • Deep understanding of Solana at the source-code level, not just the API level.
  • Strong IC7-caliber engineering background with experience designing and building complex distributed systems.
  • Production coding experience in Rust and/or Go.
  • Experience with large-scale infrastructure, including bare metal, cloud, networking, and observability.
  • Ability to define long-term technical strategies and connect them to business goals.
  • Track record of breaking down ambiguous, large-scope problems into executable plans with measurable milestones.
  • Known presence in the Solana ecosystem with relationships across the Solana Foundation, core contributor teams, and major validators.
  • Experience with public speaking, community engagement, or protocol governance participation.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills and ability to translate complex technical topics for business and executive stakeholders.
  • Genuine passion for Solana and a strong thesis on the future of Solana staking.
  • Ability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots in daily workflows, with human-in-the-loop practices.
  • Core contributor experience with Solana validator clients such as Agave or Firedancer is preferred.
  • Experience operating in highly regulated industries or security-first cultures is preferred.
  • Background in financial services, fintech, or crypto custody is preferred.
  • Experience publishing technical content such as blog posts, research, or conference talks on Solana or blockchain is preferred.
  • Experience with liquid staking, stake pools, or restaking protocols is preferred.
  • Familiarity with staking operations in other PoS ecosystems such as Ethereum or Cosmos is preferred.

  • Annual base salary range of $253,895 to $298,700 USD, excluding equity and bonus.
