Description

  • Define and drive Coinbase’s multi-year technical strategy for Solana staking across validator performance, protocol participation, and product integration.
  • Lead engineering efforts to maximize validator performance and improve APY through optimization, tooling, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Serve as the company’s foremost technical authority on Solana runtime, consensus, staking economics, and validator client ecosystems.
  • Evaluate Solana protocol upgrades and risks, and proactively prepare Coinbase for upcoming protocol changes.
  • Partner with Retail Staking and Institutional Staking teams to design scalable, differentiated staking integrations across Coinbase products.
  • Represent Coinbase externally in the Solana ecosystem by maintaining relationships with the Solana Foundation, core teams, validators, and partners.
  • Speak at conferences, contribute to protocol governance, and act as Coinbase’s voice on Solana staking.
  • Write production code and build critical infrastructure for validator operations, monitoring, automation, and reliability.
  • Provide technical leadership through architecture decisions, code reviews, incident response, and mentorship of engineers.
  • Advise on non-staking Solana initiatives that require deep protocol expertise.

Requirements

  • Extensive hands-on expertise with Solana architecture, including runtime, validator mechanics, staking economics, consensus, and validator clients such as Agave and Firedancer.
  • Deep understanding of Solana at the source-code level, not just the API level.
  • Strong IC7-caliber engineering experience building complex distributed systems.
  • Production coding experience in Rust and/or Go.
  • Deep infrastructure experience at scale, including bare metal, cloud, networking, and observability.
  • Ability to define year-long technical strategies and connect them to business outcomes.
  • Experience breaking down ambiguous, large-scope problems into executable plans with measurable milestones.
  • Established presence in the Solana ecosystem, with relationships across the Solana Foundation, contributor teams, and major validators.
  • Track record of public speaking, community engagement, or protocol governance participation.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and communication with product, business, and executive stakeholders.
  • Genuine passion for Solana and a strong thesis on where Solana staking is headed.
  • Ability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots in daily workflows with human-in-the-loop practices.
  • Preferred: core contributor to Solana validator clients or major Solana ecosystem projects.
  • Preferred: experience operating in regulated industries or security-first cultures.
  • Preferred: background in financial services, fintech, or crypto custody.
  • Preferred: published technical content such as blog posts, research, or conference talks on Solana or blockchain.
  • Preferred: experience with liquid staking, stake pools, or restaking protocols.
  • Preferred: familiarity with staking operations in other PoS ecosystems such as Ethereum or Cosmos.
