Description

  • Lead the engineering teams building mission-critical systems for Coinbase Institutional products.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn strategy into a delivery roadmap.
  • Break down complex initiatives into smaller pieces and guide iterative design and implementation.
  • Provide technical leadership on architectural decisions and maintain high standards for quality and operational excellence.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to deliver and operate complex distributed systems at scale.
  • Coach direct reports and support their career growth and development.
  • Work with talent partners to recruit exceptional engineers who fit Coinbase’s culture.
  • Own processes that improve engineering quality and help meet engineering SLAs.
  • Solve onboarding workflow challenges across data validation, document review, third-party integrations, and automation efforts.
  • Contribute hands-on through code review, documentation, on-call support, incident leadership, and bug triage when needed.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in software engineering.
  • At least 1 year of engineering management experience.
  • Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenant distributed systems at scale.
  • Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
  • Comfort being hands-on with code, technical documentation, on-call rotations, incident response, and bug triage.
  • Passion for building an open financial system and interest in crypto and blockchain technology.
  • Ability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots such as LibreChat, Gemini, and Glean in daily workflows.
  • Preferred experience scaling organizations from 10 to 100s of engineers.
  • Preferred experience with blockchains such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.
  • Preferred experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, and Postgres.
  • Preferred experience building financial, high-reliability, or security systems.
  • Preferred crypto-native experience, including interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.

Benefits

  • Annual base salary range of $218,025 to $256,500 USD, excluding equity and bonus.
  • Total compensation may include equity and bonus eligibility.

  • Remote-first flexibility with required in-person participation for team and company offsites.
