Description

  • Architect backend systems and write production code, including deployments and related implementation work.
  • Act as the main engineering contact between MPG and external co-development clients.
  • Translate client requirements into actionable tasks for yourself and other team members.
  • Design systems that balance performance, delivery timelines, and budget constraints.
  • Define technical architecture for major game titles and ensure implementation quality.
  • Mentor and delegate work to engineering team members to support their growth.
  • Create cost estimates for online services based on projected concurrent users.
  • Promote engineering best practices such as modular design, code quality, and testing.
  • Work with technical and production leadership to communicate risks, benefits, and future roadmaps.
  • Support team development toward professional accreditation and technical leadership.

Requirements

  • UK- or EU-based and able to work fully remotely.
  • Extensive experience in game development, including shipping multiple live games or similar products with high concurrent user counts.
  • Proven experience architecting distributed applications for hundreds of thousands of concurrent users, ideally on a released title or through robust load testing.
  • Production experience with at least one of Java, Golang, C#, C++, or Kotlin.
  • Desirable experience with Python, Node.js, and React.
  • Strong database experience working with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with cloud platforms including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure; AWS Professional certification is advantageous.
  • Experience building backend infrastructure with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience using Kubernetes and Docker to build products at scale.
  • Ability to autonomously architect and design online services from a specification.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to work independently while handling confidential information.
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to discuss technical strategy with non-technical stakeholders and adapt to client needs.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines from scratch or improving existing client solutions.
  • Awareness of security and cheating implications of technology choices.
  • Experience using generative AI for code generation.
  • Deep expertise in at least one backend area such as DevOps, microservices, or cloud architecture.
  • Understanding of how backend services integrate with games; experience with Unreal or Unity is useful but not required.
  • Understanding of how to use LLMs to process and query structured and unstructured data.
