Description

  • Define a company-wide database platform strategy for deployment, management, scaling, and operations.
  • Inventory existing database systems, assess risk, and create a roadmap to improve resiliency and reduce operational exposure.
  • Design and implement replication, high availability, backups, disaster recovery, migrations, and capacity planning.
  • Build production-grade tooling, governance models, and automated guardrails for database operations.
  • Write production code supporting database deployment, management, and reliability.
  • Design globally distributed database systems that address availability, latency, data residency, and sovereignty requirements.
  • Improve database architecture and operating practices to reduce database-related availability incidents.
  • Lead cross-company database infrastructure initiatives, author architectural documentation, and establish shared engineering standards.

Requirements

  • 8+ years building and operating production database and platform infrastructure in modern cloud environments.
  • Staff-level experience leading complex initiatives and influencing architecture across multiple engineering teams.
  • Deep production experience designing, building, and operating database infrastructure.
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL.
  • Hands-on experience with replication, high availability, backups and recovery, migrations, capacity planning, and geographically distributed databases.
  • Experience operating highly available, large-scale production databases across global environments.
  • Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS and Google Cloud.
  • Strong Linux server administration experience and proficiency in Go.
  • Experience writing production code and building infrastructure tooling.
  • Strong communication, cross-functional leadership, risk assessment, and architecture planning skills.
  • Experience applying AI or automation to database operations and infrastructure workflows.
  • Preferred: database internals, Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tools, stateful Kubernetes systems, database platforms, governance, policy enforcement, or developer enablement experience.

  • Base salary range of $205,000–$231,000 USD.
