Description

  • Conduct OSINT and social media intelligence investigations into incidents, events, trends, and actors.
  • Research and analyze open-source information in support of project reporting objectives.
  • Monitor social media and manage data collection, categorization, preservation, and processing according to project protocols.
  • Apply verification techniques such as geolocation and chrono-location during focused research.
  • Synthesize findings into clear narrative reports and other project products.
  • Use language skills to investigate the Afghan information environment and assist with translations where needed.
  • Maintain awareness of Afghan social, political, security, and economic dynamics.
  • Collaborate with fellow investigators and support the Investigations Lead on tasking and product priorities.
  • Present findings, methodology, and evidence in formats suitable for donor reports or social media publication.
  • Support training efforts for other organizations and individuals, including delivering training directly when required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and impact of project activities.
  • Provide ad hoc assistance to project delivery as needed.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Proficiency in languages and dialects spoken in Afghanistan, including Farsi Dari and Pashto.
  • Urdu language ability is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of Afghan history, culture, and politics.
  • Understanding of key security, human rights, and political developments in Afghanistan and the wider region.
  • Proven track record in OSINT-driven investigations.
  • Experience carrying out media monitoring projects with sizeable datasets.
  • Expertise in OSINT tools, platforms, and methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical terminology for lay audiences.
  • Ability to support clear, concise, and timely reporting.
  • Remote contractor role; full-time and part-time arrangements are considered.
