Description

  • Conduct media, social media, and where safe field research on Burkina Faso.
  • Analyse and synthesise evidence, identifying links, patterns, risks, and distinctions between verifiable findings and analytical judgement.
  • Conduct key informant interviews remotely or in person to deepen understanding of research questions.
  • Produce comprehensive, well-sourced reports on key findings and emerging risks.
  • Manage a team of researchers.
  • Work securely and remotely when field presence is not feasible.
  • Support research into human rights abuses, war crimes, harms targeting women and minorities, and influence operations.
  • Collaborate with justice accountability bodies and other partners where relevant.

Requirements

  • Strong, current understanding of Burkina Faso’s political, security, religious, and information landscape, including the transition dynamics.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the principal armed groups and influence actors affecting the information space.
  • Excellent investigative skills and a curious, sceptical approach.
  • Ability to work in a logical, methodical, evidence-led manner with strong attention to detail and rigorous sourcing.
  • Ability to identify links and connections using contextual information and clearly flag uncertainty.
  • Strong operational security awareness and discretion due to the sensitivity of the subject matter.
  • Experience managing a diverse team.
  • Fluency in English and French, both spoken and written.
  • Fluency in one or more local languages of Burkina Faso is desirable.
  • Knowledge of or experience with social media monitoring on Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, and TikTok is desirable.
  • Knowledge of or experience in building resilience to disinformation and harmful influence is desirable.
  • Familiarity with open-source research methods is desirable.
  • Experience in remote management or on remotely managed programs is desirable.
  • Ability to work full time, 5 days a week at 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to work remotely from within Burkina Faso or from the regional/international diaspora.
