Description

  • Lead and grow a team of engineers building the end-to-end conversational experience for Brex Assistant, including outbound and inbound chat interactions.
  • Guide the team through complex technical challenges while staying hands-on with code and design contributions.
  • Own delivery and outcomes for the Assistant roadmap, including sequencing decisions for agent capabilities such as memory, preferences, and merchant data.
  • Set and uphold high standards for reliability, correctness, and user experience in agentic systems used in real financial workflows.
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, and adjacent engineering teams to shape product direction and integrate with core Brex workflows.
  • Establish strong team norms and execution standards, balancing speed with validation, quality control, and operational excellence.
  • Mentor engineers through strong technical and product guidance while translating product goals into clear technical plans.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading engineering teams building user-facing products in complex, real-world domains.
  • Strong product judgment with a track record of making hard tradeoffs and delivering outcomes under real constraints.
  • Experience building and operating systems that remain reliable despite messy inputs, ambiguity, or non-deterministic behavior.
  • Ability to translate high-level product goals into clear technical direction and execution plans.
  • Ability to mentor engineers through technical and product guidance.
  • Development experience with TypeScript is a bonus.
  • Experience leading consumer-facing AI products, especially in regulated or high-stakes domains such as finance, healthcare, or travel, is a bonus.
  • Direct experience with conversational UX, agents, or other non-deterministic systems in production is a bonus.
  • Prior experience as a tech lead for agentic systems, particularly in spend or financial workflows, is a bonus.
  • Personal empathy for spend-heavy workflows, such as frequent travel or managing expenses on behalf of a company, is a bonus.

Benefits

  • Expected base salary range of $240,000 to $300,000.
  • Equity and other forms of compensation may be included in the total compensation package.
  • Hybrid work model with the role based in San Francisco.
  • Minimum of two coordinated in-office days per week, with three days per week required starting February 2, 2026.
  • Up to four weeks per year of fully remote work.
