Description

  • Provide legal advice on the organization’s operations and obligations across all BCI divisions.
  • Evaluate legal risks and help minimize exposure in areas such as employment, contract, privacy, and competition law.
  • Support the formulation and review of internal governance policies.
  • Draft legal opinions, memoranda, and briefing documents.
  • Handle formalities related to dispute settlements and monitor implementation of legal clauses.
  • Advise on legal issues involving corporate and charity governance, fundraising, marketing, data protection, trademarks, copyright, defamation, and litigation.
  • Provide legal insights into blockchain and emerging technologies in climate action frameworks.
  • Develop legal strategy and objectives while working independently and collaboratively with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Unpaid volunteer role based from home in the United States.
  • Degree in Law for the Legal Assistant role.
  • Qualified lawyer admitted in an American state for Legal Advisor, Senior Legal Advisor, or Principal Legal Advisor roles.
  • Post-qualification experience in private practice or in-house for Legal Advisor roles, with in-house experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience for Senior Legal Advisor roles.
  • Minimum of 7 years post-qualification experience for Principal Legal Advisor roles.
  • Proven experience in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Broad legal knowledge in areas such as corporate, contract, employment, and litigation law.
  • Excellent English writing skills and the ability to communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong Microsoft Office 365 skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize work, solve problems, and maintain strong attention to detail.
  • Foreign language skills, such as Spanish, are preferred.
  • Some knowledge of climate change, climate finance, and blockchain technology is preferred.
