Description

Provide legal advice on the organization’s operations and obligations across all BCI divisions.
Evaluate legal risks and help minimize exposure in areas such as employment, contract, privacy, and competition law.
Support the formulation and review of internal governance policies.
Draft legal opinions, memoranda, and briefing documents.
Handle formalities related to dispute settlements and monitor implementation of legal clauses.
Advise on legal issues involving corporate and charity governance, fundraising, marketing, data protection, trademarks, copyright, defamation, and litigation.
Provide legal insights into blockchain and emerging technologies in climate action frameworks.
Develop legal strategy and objectives while working independently and collaboratively with stakeholders.

Requirements

Unpaid volunteer role based from home in the United States.
Degree in Law for the Legal Assistant role.
Qualified lawyer admitted in an American state for Legal Advisor, Senior Legal Advisor, or Principal Legal Advisor roles.
Post-qualification experience in private practice or in-house for Legal Advisor roles, with in-house experience preferred.
Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience for Senior Legal Advisor roles.
Minimum of 7 years post-qualification experience for Principal Legal Advisor roles.
Proven experience in a not-for-profit environment.
Broad legal knowledge in areas such as corporate, contract, employment, and litigation law.
Excellent English writing skills and the ability to communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Strong Microsoft Office 365 skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive.
Ability to multitask, prioritize work, solve problems, and maintain strong attention to detail.
Foreign language skills, such as Spanish, are preferred.
Some knowledge of climate change, climate finance, and blockchain technology is preferred.
