Description

  • Oversee quarterly analysis of loss and loss adjustment expense reserves and provide data for external financial reporting.
  • Conduct research on key reserve drivers, including emerging claim types, claim frequency and severity trends, and loss development patterns.
  • Manage and direct the reserving team to complete recurring assignments within tight timeframes.
  • Turn data into actionable information to support organizational decision-making.
  • Present findings and clear data visuals to Senior Leadership on a frequent basis.
  • Select actuarial assumptions and methods, review alternatives, and defend conclusions to peers and leadership.
  • Develop and maintain analytical standards, procedures, peer reviews, and documentation to ensure consistency.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory activity and incorporate benefit and rate changes into actuarial analyses.
  • Participate in industry professional organizations and rating committees as a company representative and thought leader.
  • Prepare and present ad-hoc research and reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Risk Management, Data Science, or another quantitative field.
  • Fellow or Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society certification required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant FCAS experience with insurance industry concepts and applications.
  • Experience working with Willis Towers Watson ResQ preferred.
  • Sound data analytical skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, MS-Access, and MS-SQL.
  • Knowledge of workers compensation standards and best practices preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving ability with the capacity to gather, analyze, and synthesize information in complex situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executives, senior leaders, and non-actuaries using data visuals and clear explanations.
  • Leadership experience or the ability to direct work, provide feedback, and maintain accountability within a team.
  • Willingness to travel to San Francisco quarterly.
