Description

  • Lead implementation and optimization of global IP strategy across patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights.
  • Oversee patent portfolio management, including invention disclosures, prosecution strategy, and portfolio optimization.
  • Support trademark prosecution and manage trademark strategy and brand protection initiatives.
  • Work closely with Advanced Concepts, product design, and Footwear teams to identify and protect innovations before market launch.
  • Advise on IP infringement matters, conduct freedom-to-operate analyses, and manage IP disputes.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate IP-related agreements, including licenses, development agreements, collaboration agreements, and strategic partnerships.
  • Build and manage relationships with external IP counsel and service providers while controlling costs.
  • Develop and refine IP processes and workflows, including use of IP management systems for tracking assets, renewals, and annuities.
  • Manage the IP budget and contribute to strategic decision-making through prioritization and data-driven analysis.
  • Build IP awareness across the organization and help embed IP thinking into business operations.

Requirements

  • J.D. or L.L.B., or equivalent law degree.
  • Member in good standing with a Canadian provincial bar (preferred) or a U.S. state bar.
  • Registered Patent Attorney or Agent preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of intellectual property experience.
  • Experience across patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and IP licensing.
  • Experience prosecuting patent applications and trademark applications.
  • Experience working with IP management tools and systems.
  • Experience working closely with product development and R&D teams.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate IP risk into actionable business guidance.
  • Experience in retail, apparel, outdoor, or consumer goods industries preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for explaining complex IP concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Eligible to work in Canada (preferred) or the United States.
  • Willingness to travel periodically between Vancouver, Portland, and other company locations and events.
