Description

  • Own and deliver small to medium-sized backend features end-to-end, from technical discovery and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and iteration.
  • Take technical ownership of one or more backend services or components, ensuring they remain reliable, maintainable, well-documented, and easy to extend.
  • Write clean, modular, testable code primarily in Ruby/Ruby on Rails and Python, and contribute to frontend code when needed to support full‑stack feature delivery.
  • Design, evolve, and implement GraphQL and REST APIs that power frontend and partner-facing applications.
  • Ensure strong observability and operational health of owned services through logging, monitoring, alerting, root-cause analysis, and follow-through improvements.
  • Participate in technical discussions and make thoughtful trade-offs that balance simplicity, long-term maintainability, and performance.
  • Support team productivity through high-quality code reviews, sharing context, and helping unblock others.
  • Ship production-ready code frequently using a modern CI/CD pipeline and improve system reliability through testing and operational best practices.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience building and operating high-availability backend systems.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering backend features and owning systems end-to-end.
  • Strong fundamentals in system design, API design, and data modeling.
  • Proficiency with Python or Ruby, including experience with at least one web framework (Ruby on Rails, FastAPI, Django, or Flask).
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as S3, SQS, SES, EventBridge, or similar cloud-native services.
  • Experience with containerization using Docker; exposure to distributed systems or platform engineering is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of ReactJS with the ability to contribute to frontend components for full‑stack delivery.
  • Familiarity with background jobs, asynchronous processing, and event-driven workflows.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders, mentor junior engineers, and represent the engineering team in discussions with US stakeholders; comfortable working in ambiguous problem spaces.
  • Nice-to-have: experience integrating with Salesforce or other enterprise platforms, designing/owning GraphQL APIs (Apollo or similar), familiarity with observability/distributed tracing tools (OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, Prometheus), Kubernetes/Helm, and exposure to AI-assisted engineering.
  • Must be eligible to work in India (Perch cannot currently sponsor visas).
