Description

  • Manage a portfolio of customers and process end-to-end payroll accurately, including payroll reports and journals.
  • Handle high payslip volumes and competing demands while maintaining service standards and KPIs.
  • Support team members in performing their roles effectively by auditing skills and identifying training needs.
  • Apply company policies to staffing queries and issues that arise at a supervisory level.
  • Act as a coach or mentor for team members when required.
  • Conduct regular one-to-ones to monitor performance and development.
  • Deliver training sessions, induction support, and supported work plans for the team.
  • Process third-party returns, including pension returns.
  • Update payroll systems with current rates, payscales, allowance values, pension deduction rates, NI rates, and tax thresholds.
  • Calculate pay adjustments, including outstanding holiday pay for leavers.
  • Resolve complex payroll queries.
  • Attend weekly progress meetings with payroll leaders.

Requirements

  • Proven payroll experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise your own workload and the workload of others.
  • Understanding of HR policies and procedures, including when to refer concerns to the senior team.
  • Commercial outlook as part of a traded service.
  • Strong understanding of local government pay and conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrable customer service skills and resilience when handling challenging payroll situations.
  • Ability to operate with independent professional discretion and strong judgement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
