Description

  • Communicate with assigned clients and train them on payroll processes and procedures to support ongoing compliance.
  • Collect approved pay information each pay period and review payroll reports for accuracy before submission.
  • Assist clients with final check calculations and other related payroll calculations.
  • Prepare and submit retirement reporting and payments for 403(b)/401(k) plans and, when applicable, STRS/PERS pension plans.
  • Reconcile payroll-related liability accounts with staff accountants before month-end close.
  • Create, update, and distribute payroll calendars and due date reminders to clients.
  • Review client paperwork and process new hires and employee changes in payroll systems.
  • Research STRS membership type for client new hires as needed.
  • File payroll documents, run backup reports, and prepare ad hoc client reports.
  • Gather audit backup documentation and prepare payroll-related year-end audit workpapers.
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures to improve payroll processes and efficiency.
  • Complete other duties or projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Payroll-related coursework and/or certification is a plus.
  • On-the-job training is provided for internal applicants.
  • 3 years of payroll processing experience preferred for external applicants.
  • Experience processing quarterly payroll tax returns is preferred.
  • Experience with payroll systems such as ADP, Paycor, Paycom, Paychex, or UKG Ready Now.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting record-keeping methods and practices.
  • Intermediate knowledge of payroll and wage and hour laws.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, X-Lookups, pivot tables, and formulas.
  • Strong English grammar and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to manage multi-state payroll processing with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change and work independently.
  • Ability to learn payroll rules, regulations, and technical procedures for nonprofit organizations and charter schools.
  • Ability to perform accurate arithmetic calculations and identify mathematical errors.
  • HR experience is a plus.
  • Experience in the charter school, nonprofit, or education sector is a plus.
  • Must be based in AZ, CA, CO, CT, ID, IL, NV, OR, SD, TX, UT, or WA.
