Description

  • Define test strategy and translate design requirements into structured test plans at the component, sub-assembly, and system levels.
  • Write test plans and procedures with clear objectives, setups, instrumentation, pass/fail criteria, and traceable data requirements.
  • Assemble and configure prototype test articles, including instrumented and revision-controlled builds.
  • Execute tests on components and integrated systems, then collect, process, and analyze data.
  • Produce structured test reports with findings and design recommendations.
  • Consult with mechanical and electrical engineers during design to identify instrumentation, access, and fixture needs.
  • Design and build custom test fixtures and benchtop setups for an R&D environment.
  • Support the design, assembly, and documentation of wiring harnesses for prototype hardware.
  • Use PLM tools to manage test documentation, hardware revisions, and test records.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on test failures and participate in design reviews with cross-functional engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience testing mechanical or electromechanical hardware, including setup, instrumentation, data collection, and analysis.
  • Ability to write structured test plans with clear pass/fail criteria and traceable documentation.
  • Experience designing and building test fixtures or benchtop test setups.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and component datasheets.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems and benchtop instruments such as force/torque sensors, encoders, and DAQs.
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary hardware teams with fast iteration cycles.
  • Systematic approach to debugging and root-cause analysis.
  • Python competency for data processing and analysis.
  • Ability to leverage AI agents for debug and development support.
  • Experience with robotic hand, gripper, or dexterous manipulation hardware, preferred.
  • Familiarity with wire harnessing, including routing, connector selection, and strain relief, preferred.
  • Experience with a PLM system such as Arena, Windchill, or Teamcenter, preferred.
  • CAD experience such as SolidWorks or Onshape for fixture design and drawing review, preferred.
  • Background in mechanism characterization such as stiffness, backlash, friction, or range of motion, preferred.
  • Experience testing or characterizing electromechanical linear actuators, including force output, stroke, speed, and backdrivability, preferred.
  • Prior experience in an R&D or prototype development environment, preferred.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field plus 3 years of relevant experience, or an MS plus 1 year.
  • Candidates with non-traditional backgrounds and equivalent hands-on experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements including sitting for long periods, lifting up to 15 pounds, and reading screens and printed materials.
