Description

  • Work with Product Leadership to translate long-term business goals into scalable technical milestones and a clear technical roadmap.
  • Lead the design of distributed, event-driven, and cloud-native systems, including decisions on system boundaries, data consistency, and integration patterns.
  • Drive the adoption of AI-native engineering practices and integrate AI capabilities into the Appian platform.
  • Set and enforce standards for system design, code quality, modularity, maintainability, and technical debt management.
  • Create internal frameworks and “golden paths” that help other engineering teams ship faster and improve productivity.
  • Serve as the escalation point for critical production incidents and architect long-term fixes for performance bottlenecks.
  • Mentor Senior Engineers and provide technical coaching through design reviews and team development.
  • Influence stakeholders and align technical trade-offs with business value and platform strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • A background from a highly selective, premier engineering institution with strong Computer Science fundamentals is preferred.
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, object-oriented programming, and functional programming.
  • Proven track record of leading technical initiatives from conception to global production deployment.
  • Deep expertise in Java and modern web technologies.
  • Extensive experience building and scaling distributed systems in AWS cloud-native environments.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise application architecture.
  • Experience managing large-scale codebases with a focus on performance optimization and bottleneck identification.
  • Experience with AI/ML integration, including RAG or agentic workflows, is preferred.
  • Experience using AI tools and models such as Amazon Q, Kiro, and Claude is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and advanced CI/CD automation.
  • Deep familiarity with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, and ELK.
  • Strong experience with AWS services and relational, NoSQL, and vector databases.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise security, including OAuth2, OIDC, and encryption at rest and in transit.
