Description

  • Define and accelerate the backend architecture for onboarding signal collection, personalization pipelines, and experimentation infrastructure.
  • Shape the technical strategy for how Reddit builds and iterates on the new user onboarding experience.
  • Partner with the engineering manager to promote a growth engineering mindset focused on experimentation, iteration, and learning.
  • Build and maintain deep partnerships with engineering teams including Relevance, Feeds, Notifications, and other consumer surfaces.
  • Establish instrumentation and measurement foundations to support rigorous A/B testing and data-driven decisions.
  • Serve as the engineering voice in cross-functional partnerships with Product, Design, Data Science, and other platform teams.
  • Align stakeholders on technical feasibility, tradeoffs, and roadmap decisions that connect user experience goals with backend realities.
  • Lead design reviews and raise the bar for reliability, scalability, and maintainability across a high-scale distributed system.
  • Represent Onboarding Engineering in broader Reddit technical forums and influence organization-wide engineering patterns.
  • Mentor engineers and help the team work through complex problems more effectively.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience.
  • Experience steering cross-team projects that solve tangible business problems.
  • Strong systems thinking and ability to connect code, product, and team dynamics.
  • Experience mentoring other engineers and helping them level up.
  • Deeply data-informed mindset with fluency in experimentation, funnels, and retention.
  • Comfort working with growth-team ambiguity and fast iteration.
  • Clear and transparent communication skills for technical and executive audiences.
  • Experience with ranking, recommendations, and personalization.
  • Experience designing backend architectures, retrieval systems, and inference pipelines for ML-heavy products.
  • Ability to partner with machine learning engineers and work with model outputs such as Two-Tower models.
