Description

  • Lead the assembly, integration, and testing of novel optical systems.
  • Work with optical suppliers to procure optical elements and manage technical oversight, acceptance testing, and anomaly resolution.
  • Generate alignment plans and procedures for optical systems.
  • Align optical systems using autocollimators, theodolites, alignment telescopes, interferometers, lens alignment stations, and other mechanical methods.
  • Manage integration and test vendors to scale production of complex infrared assemblies.
  • Develop and review test setups, procedures, and data to transition products and systems from R&D to production.
  • Evaluate prototype and production optical system performance errors to identify root cause.
  • Interface with test and evaluation teams to qualify optical performance through lab, field, and airborne testing.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or Physics/Astronomy with a concentration in Optics.
  • 5+ years of experience with complex opto-mechanical systems performing optical assembly, integration, and testing.
  • Strong experience integrating and developing free-space optical systems for space or airborne environments.
  • Knowledge of how electro-optical systems are specified, developed, manufactured, and tested.
  • Experience with optical tolerancing, lens manufacturing methods, and drawing standards.
  • Experience with laboratory testing and optical component/system testing, including spectral transmission, interferometry, EE, MTF, and PSF.
  • Demonstrated experience verifying and validating optical system performance requirements.
  • Experience in prototype and production development, including requirements validation.
  • Experience with optical design and analysis software such as Zemax or CODE V.
  • Data analysis proficiency in Matlab, Python, or similar tools.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • MS or PhD in Optics is preferred.
  • Demonstrated first-principles approach to complex opto-mechanical problems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of image quality metrics and data analysis methods is preferred.
  • Experience testing optical systems in thermally and vibrationally dynamic environments is preferred.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and mentoring experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of infrared optical materials and fabrication limitations, including molded, polished, and diamond-turned optics, is preferred.
  • Strong optomechanical engineering background with experience in lens bonding and retention, athermalization, and mount design is preferred.
  • Experience with Zygo MX, 4D 4Sight, or Apre Reveal interferometry software is preferred.
