Description

  • Lead the assembly, integration, and test of novel optical systems.
  • Work with optical suppliers to procure optical elements and resolve technical issues.
  • Generate alignment plans and procedures for optical systems.
  • Align optical systems using autocollimators, theodolites, alignment telescopes, interferometers, lens alignment stations, and mechanical methods.
  • Manage integration and test vendors to scale production of complex infrared assemblies.
  • Develop and review test setups, procedures, and data to transition products from R&D to production.
  • Evaluate prototype and production optical performance errors to determine root cause.
  • Interface with test and evaluation teams to qualify optical performance through lab, field, and airborne testing.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or Physics/Astronomy with a concentration in Optics.
  • 5+ years of experience with complex opto-mechanical systems, including optical assembly, integration, and testing.
  • Strong experience with free-space optical systems integration and development for space or airborne environments.
  • Knowledge of how electro-optical systems are specified, developed, manufactured, and tested.
  • Experience with optical tolerancing, lens manufacturing methods, and drawing standards.
  • Experience with laboratory testing and optical component/system testing, including spectral transmission, interferometry, EE, MTF, and PSF.
  • Demonstrated experience in integration, test, and performance requirements verification and validation of optical systems.
  • Experience in prototype and production development, including requirements validation.
  • Experience with optical design and analysis software such as Zemax or CODE V.
  • Data analysis proficiency in Matlab, Python, or similar tools.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • MS or PhD in Optics preferred.
  • Experience with image quality metrics and data analysis methods preferred.
  • Experience testing optical systems in thermally and vibrationally dynamic environments preferred.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and mentoring experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of infrared optical materials and fabrication methods such as molded, polished, and diamond-turned optics preferred.
  • Strong optomechanical background with experience in lens bonding, retention, athermalization, and mount design preferred.
  • Experience with Zygo MX, 4D 4Sight, or Apre Reveal interferometry software preferred.
