Description

  • Work closely with development and test engineers to build and test new optical systems for airborne, maritime, and space platforms.
  • Fabricate and assemble high-quality, high-reliability electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Develop and implement integration and test fixtures, and set up, use, monitor, and report on test equipment.
  • Own internal prototyping resources, including mechanical and electrical fabrication equipment.
  • Manage the R&D space from a facilities and organizational standpoint.
  • Support external testing initiatives by traveling to laboratories and test sites as needed.
  • Troubleshoot assemblies, cables, wiring harnesses, and related prototyping work.
  • Take ownership of the rapid prototyping process from start to finish.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a technician working on complex electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to work through R&D tasks with limited oversight, including evaluating, designing, ordering materials, and executing work.
  • Experience building and troubleshooting cables and wiring harnesses.
  • Comfort with soldering, crimping, assembling cables, and connectors.
  • Basic electrical understanding, including voltage drop, wire sizing based on amperage, and Ohm's Law.
  • Ability to take ownership of the entire rapid prototyping process from start to finish.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Experience with alignment and characterization of optical systems, preferred.
  • 3D printing experience for prototyping, preferred.
  • Experience operating manual machine tools such as a milling machine or lathe, preferred.
  • Experience with test and measurement equipment such as Instron, CMM, or optical comparator, preferred.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, Altium, Matlab, Python, or LabVIEW, preferred.
