Description

  • Own the design of electric propulsion systems, including motors, batteries, inverters, and high-voltage power management.
  • Lead electric performance analysis, voltage and thermal modeling, and energy optimization studies to meet mission requirements.
  • Develop and execute test plans for propulsion subsystems and integrated power generation systems using ground test stands, HILs, and flight testing.
  • Define and validate technical performance measures such as power, efficiency, thermal limits, and fault tolerance across operating modes.
  • Engage suppliers and produce technical specifications and interface control documents for propulsion components and assemblies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on packaging, structural and thermal interfaces, and thrust/power control architectures.
  • Manage development schedules and technical risks in coordination with program management.
  • Own the electric powertrain architecture from concept through production for a tail-sitter VTOL aircraft.
  • Integrate the electric propulsion system with rotor systems, the powerplant, and cooling systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 12+ years of professional experience, or recognition as a seasoned expert with significant influence in the field.
  • Engineering leadership and project execution experience in aerospace, automotive, or defense with a focus on electric or hybrid propulsion.
  • In-depth knowledge of electric motors, generators, power electronics, battery systems, thermal management, and energy storage architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with propulsion system development, testing, and integration for aerospace platforms.
  • Strong project management skills with experience using JIRA and Confluence, and familiarity with Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Willingness to travel to test sites and vendors as needed.
  • Direct experience with hybrid-electric or electric propulsion systems for aircraft, rotorcraft, eVTOL, or UAS platforms (preferred).
  • Proven track record leading propulsion systems through qualification campaigns from early development through flight test and production (preferred).
  • Experience with propulsion system modeling and simulation tools (preferred).
  • Familiarity with aviation environmental and EMI standards such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and DO-160, or equivalent (preferred).
  • Experience in Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Design Build Fly, or similar hands-on engineering programs (preferred).
