Description

  • Lead the conceptualization, design, and detailed engineering of novel propulsion systems, including engines, motors, pumps, and thermal or fluidic management components.
  • Design and optimize mechanical components and subsystems such as gearboxes, actuators, mechanisms, and structural elements.
  • Perform computational and analytical studies using CFD, FEA, thermodynamic modeling, and related multi-physics simulation tools.
  • Fabricate, assemble, test, and validate propulsion prototypes and key components.
  • Develop test plans, execute experiments, collect data, and perform root cause analysis to improve designs.
  • Collaborate with Systems, Electrical, Software, and Manufacturing teams to integrate propulsion and mechanical components into larger platforms.
  • Optimize designs for manufacturability, maintainability, scalability, reliability, and mass targets.
  • Support projects across multiple teams, with potential travel depending on the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 3+ years of direct, hands-on experience in propulsion system design, analysis, or high-performance mechanical component development.
  • Experience with propulsion systems such as electric motors, internal combustion engines, jet engines, or rocket engines.
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and turbomachinery.
  • Proficiency with CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent or OpenFOAM.
  • Proficiency with FEA tools such as ANSYS or Nastran, and other multi-physics simulation tools.
  • Strong mechanical design and CAD skills using SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or similar software.
  • Understanding of GD&T, materials selection, and manufacturing processes for high-performance components.
  • Experience planning and analyzing propulsion or component-level testing, including data acquisition, instrumentation, and experimental validation.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
