Description

  • Prepare aircraft for flight and conduct flight tests as the test pilot.
  • Support the test engineering team throughout product development and the life of the developmental aircraft.
  • Participate in design reviews, working groups, safety reviews, and airworthiness reviews.
  • Develop system test procedures and support laboratory and open-air surrogate testing.
  • Collaborate with Flight Test Engineers, Discipline Engineers, and customer representatives on test planning and execution.
  • Determine safe, effective, and efficient test procedures and verify system functionality and safety.
  • Support flight operations efforts and help direct the flight test program.
  • Approve cockpit configurations, author flight procedures, and develop and verify emergency procedures.
  • Review test procedures, flight test plans, flight test cards, operating limitations, schedules, support documents, and ground handling documents.
  • Participate in configuration control meetings and help evaluate change requests, software releases, and aircraft block changes.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a U.S. military test pilot school (TPS), or meet DCMAINST 8210.1 alternate education and experience qualifications for contractor UA pilot/operator.
  • 10+ years of flight test experience, including first flight of new aircraft and envelope expansion.
  • 1,000 hours Pilot-in-Command time or 500 hours in unmanned aircraft.
  • 200 hours of Pilot-in-Command time during engineering flight test and 10 hours during experimental flight test.
  • Commercial pilot certificate with instrument rating.
  • FAA Class 2 Medical, maintained annually.
  • Ability to travel as required to support off-site aircraft testing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially for technical subjects and documentation.
  • Experience authoring flight manuals and technical documentation for developmental aircraft.
  • Specialized training and experience flying and evaluating new or significantly modified aircraft, systems, or technologies.
  • Strong computer and technical software experience with JIRA, MS Office, Jama, and Nominal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, perform complex tasks, and work extended or irregular hours.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a U.S. TS/SCI security clearance.
  • 15+ years of test pilot experience working with developmental aircraft (preferred).
  • 2,000 hours Pilot-in-Command time or 500 hours in unmanned aircraft (preferred).
  • US Military Weapons School Graduate (preferred).
  • ATP certificate with Class 1 medical (preferred).
  • Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related technical discipline (preferred).
  • Previous experience as PIC of high-performance turbine aircraft, especially tactical military aircraft (preferred).
  • Previous experience as a test pilot on a manned or large UAS aircraft (preferred).
  • First flight experience on a developmental manned or large UAS aircraft (preferred).
  • Certified Flight Instructor / Instrument (preferred).
