Description

  • Provide thought leadership and help expand AIR’s reputation and capacity in child welfare.
  • Identify opportunities and develop a marketing and business plan to grow child welfare work.
  • Support business development by leading and writing proposals for grants and contracts from federal, state, and local agencies, foundations, and other clients.
  • Serve as principal investigator and/or project director for large and complex research studies and evaluations.
  • Design studies, lead analytical teams, oversee study tasks, monitor quality assurance, and manage budgets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, funders, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Serve as a primary client contact and grow the portfolio of work through external relationships and awareness of field direction.
  • Mentor junior colleagues in research, evaluation methods, project management, and problem-solving.
  • Support interdisciplinary work across related areas such as early childhood care and education, maternal and child health, children’s mental health, trauma-informed care, and social services.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in child development, developmental psychology, human development, education, public or social policy, economics, social welfare, or a related field with at least 7 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with at least 11 years of relevant experience.
  • 10 or more years of project leadership experience, including proposal writing, project management, staff supervision, report writing, and external relationship management.
  • National, positive reputation for expertise in child welfare and strong connections in the field.
  • Knowledge of family supports, social services, and/or early childhood research.
  • Proven record of leading proposals and winning competitive contracts or grants from federal, state, local government, or foundations.
  • Familiarity with federal and state procurement and contract opportunities.
  • Experience leading and mentoring diverse teams on research-focused projects within large or complex initiatives.
  • Strong quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-method design and analysis skills.
  • Strong writing skills for communicating technical research findings and policy implications to policymakers and practitioners.
  • Strong oral communication, collaboration, analytical, problem-solving, and task management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.

Benefits

  • Flexible remote work within the United States or from one of AIR’s U.S. office locations.
  • Annual salary range of $155,000 to $190,000 USD.
