Description

  • Influence the architecture of Alpaca’s market data systems.
  • Design highly scalable, mission-critical systems.
  • Implement backend services with a focus on scalability and resilience.
  • Maintain software quality and test coverage.
  • Participate in code reviews.
  • Troubleshoot incidents and reported bugs.
  • Support timely engineering projects through on-call work when needed.
  • Oversee public API structure and documentation for streaming and historical endpoints.
  • Plan, experiment on, and productionize new services and libraries.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience working on systems at scale.
  • Experience with compiled imperative languages such as Go, C, C++, or Rust.
  • SQL or relational database skills.
  • Familiarity with TCP/IP and UDP networking.
  • Proficiency with Linux/BSD and shell scripting.
  • Proven track record of architecting and leading medium-scale projects involving multiple teams.
  • Experience with Kubernetes or other workload orchestration and scheduling systems (Alpaca primarily uses Kubernetes via GKE).
  • Experience with major cloud platforms (Alpaca primarily uses GCP).
  • A deep understanding of POSIX-like operating systems, modern infrastructure, and orchestration practices.
  • A passion for financial markets.
  • Experience with market data (nice to have).
  • Knowledge of microservice architectures and clean code principles (nice to have).
  • Cloud networking experience, including BGP and VPC peering (nice to have).
  • Experience building low-latency applications, distributed key-value stores, CI/CD, observability, tracing, continuous profiling, capacity planning, and benchmarking (nice to have).
  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies (nice to have).
