Description

  • Own the performance, scalability, and reliability roadmap for the backend platform in partnership with the CTO and engineering leaders.
  • Build and lead a high-performing core platform engineering team focused on backend, database, and platform services.
  • Establish load testing, benchmarking, and regression detection practices for production-scale performance validation.
  • Design and execute realistic load tests that mirror customer behavior and production conditions.
  • Drive root-cause analysis and remediation of production performance incidents and bottlenecks.
  • Improve relational database performance across MySQL and PostgreSQL environments in AWS RDS/Aurora.
  • Lead query optimization, indexing improvements, schema evolution, and database scaling strategies.
  • Strengthen observability through metrics, structured logging, tracing, and performance KPIs.
  • Partner with Product Engineering, Cloud Operations, and SRE to align platform investments and ownership boundaries.
  • Mentor engineers, raise engineering standards, and influence platform practices across teams.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of backend engineering experience, including senior technical leadership roles.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with Java, such as JEE, Spring, or comparable enterprise frameworks.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for tooling, automation, or services development.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and scalable SaaS architectures.
  • Experience designing and implementing load tests.
  • Experience with performance, observability, and scalability tools such as Grafana, JMeter, query EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, and OpenTelemetry.
  • Strong expertise in optimizing relational database access patterns, including MySQL and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience evolving large-scale applications toward modular or microservices-based architectures.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools pragmatically while maintaining architectural integrity and engineering standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, infrastructure, and product organizations.
  • Preferred: experience supporting enterprise SaaS platforms at significant scale.
  • Preferred: familiarity with performance tuning and profiling tools.
  • Preferred: experience implementing distributed tracing frameworks.
  • Preferred: experience partnering closely with infrastructure and SRE teams in AWS environments.
  • Preferred: background in enterprise workflow or data-intensive platforms.
  • Preferred: experience designing reusable platform services or shared data infrastructure in a growing SaaS environment.
